Standard
1. A defined outcome and expectation from a work activity.
2. A measurement which is considered normal for the given situation.
3. A common characteristic.
Standard Quality Standard
An overall level of quality in the original Performance Quality Standards framework which is where the surface is designed for general club use.
Structural Quality
A category of measurement in the Performance Quality Standards framework. This category includes features which provide the physical turf culture components of a surface, including vegetative coverage, root and thatch depth, and soil characteristics.
Surface Debris
A presentational quality performance standard which states the maximum amount, as a percentage, of debris which can be present on a surface. This would include examples such as tree leaves, sweet wrappers, paper and the like. It could also quality this performance standard by stating that it is soft litter which is not also classed as a hazard, so as to differentiate it from other forms of surface debris, which might include stones (over greater than a stated diameter), glass, bottle, cans, dog excrement etc. which if present will be a hazard and should be identified as such when carrying out

Surface Evenness
An expression of how smooth a surface is. It may also just be referred to as Evenness. It is typically measured with a straight edge, laid flat on a surface and a rule or graduated wedge used to determine the extent of any gap under the straight edge. This might be better termed unevenness, as an even surface would be uniformly smooth without any depressions present.
Surface Evenness - Disturbance
A playing quality performance standard which states the maximum depth of indentation, measured in millimetres, within a surface following the impact of a cricket ball. It is typically measured after either vertical ball bounce or spin tests have been carried out.
Sward Colour
A presentational quality performance standard which states the minimum amount of conformity, measured as uniformity of colour, of a turfgrass surface. A specific colour is not mentioned, and whilst green is clearly implied, this is not stating that, and so a uniform yellow colour would actually be complying if the uniformity of that colour met the minimum parameters. A qualifying statement could be provided by a site manager to indicate the desired colour for the uniformity to be achieved in. This may also vary during different parts of the year, as a dark green colour during the drier summer

Thatch Depth
A structural quality performance standard which primarily states the maximum depth of thatch, in millimetres. However, a minimum depth of thatch is also desirable in some fine turf surfaces, such as golf and bowling greens, to aid sward resilience. A distinction might also be made between fibrous thatch and spongy thatch, with for example a minimum depth of 3mm-5mm being acceptable as fibrous thatch for a golf or bowling green, but spongy thatch is undesirable and might not have a minimum figure, just a maximum figure.
Total Ground Cover
A structural quality performance standard which states the minimum area of ground cover, as a percentage, which can be assessed as having some form of vegetation. The inverse of this is that the remaining area is therefore bare area. This might also be qualified by having sub-class of live and decaying-dead ground cover. This performance standard should be linked to the Sward Colour, a Presentational category standard.
An additional sub-class could be that of Sward density to measure the number of shoots per unit area. A sward with good ground cover might consist of fewer plants but with bro
