Thatch Depth

A structural quality performance standard which primarily states the maximum depth of thatch, in millimetres. However, a minimum depth of thatch is also desirable in some fine turf surfaces, such as golf and bowling greens, to aid sward resilience. A distinction might also be made between fibrous thatch and spongy thatch, with for example a minimum depth of 3mm-5mm being acceptable as fibrous thatch for a golf or bowling green, but spongy thatch is undesirable and might not have a minimum figure, just a maximum figure.
