Traction [2] advert image shown if present

The interaction between a turf surface and footwear. It is used to measure the grip of a surface to help determine if a surface is too slippery, or alternatively if not enough give is provided. If a surface has too high a traction then a player's ligament or tissue might sustain physical damage, or tearing, before the turf surface itself fails.

A playing quality performance standard which states the minimum required grip (traction) provided by the surface, being measured in Nm.

Vertical Ball Bounce advert image shown if present

A playing quality performance standard which states the range, as a percentage, that a dropped ball will rebound from a predetermined height. The narrower the range given within the parameters means that the surface will provide a more consistent playing response.

Weeds: Large-Leaved advert image shown if present

A structural quality performance standard which states the maximum amount of large leaved weeds, as a percentage, in the surface being maintained. This was previously called broad-leaved weeds, but this would have included small weeds such as Black Medick (Medicago lupulina) because of the more circular type shape of the leaf. A manager of a site might name certain large-leaved weeds as being of particular problem for their surfaces, for example, broad-leaved plantain, narrow leaved plantain, daisy, dandelion, etc.

A structural quality performance standard which states the maximum amount of small leaved weeds, as a percentage, in the surface being maintained. A manager of a site might name certain small-leaved weeds as being of particular problem for their surfaces, for example, white clover, yarrow, pearlwort, parsley piert, etc. Some weeds could strictly fall in either small or large leaved, such as knotgrass.

Width of Pitch Markings advert image shown if present

A presentational quality performance standard which states that the width of line markings will be uniform throughout and will also be within a stated range, for example, between 12mm and 18mm.
