A thin metal tine of various shapes. Typically, this will be in the shape of a triangle or a narrow rectangle with a curved end. These are used for regular aeration work, but not during dry weather or periods leading up to dry spells because the narrow slit produced on a surface is prone to gaping. Root pruning and the keeping open of a turf surface for soil air to atmospheric air exchange are two reasons for using this type of tine.

They are well suited to drier and compact conditions as they can better penetrate these conditions more so than can slit tines. Solid tines are also used in heavy duty equipment carrying out decompaction work.
