A plastic material, which is used in some synthetic grass like carpets, for example 3G carpets. It is a softer and more flexible form of plastic than polypropylene, providing an improved sliding ability (called low slide reaction) which is particularly beneficial for hockey surfaces; it also helps to potentially reduce player fatigue. It has less of a resistance to UV-degradation than polypropylene, although the quantities of water required for this material in short-pile turf can be reduced, thus making cost and resource savings.

A non-turf, artificial surface which consists of plastic and rubber and can be manufactured for permeability, non-permeability, firmness, softness, and with different colours, to suit a range of requirements for different sports: Athletics Tracks; Run-up tracks; Tennis; Netball; Football; or for Multi-Use Games Areas.

A relatively hard plastic filament which has good durability and a good resistance to UV degradation. Fibrillated polypropylene fibres, due to the net-like feature are able to retain some water.

A layer of plastic material in which fibres are fixed and which adds strength to a carpet.

Key maintenance challenges with reinforced pitches is that they are free draining, require more critical nutrient management due to relatively poor nutrient retention within the rootzone and poor moisture retention, typically requiring more frequent irrigation.

A turf surface that has had additional artificial material included within its soil profile. This can refer to three main types of reinforced surface, which are also called combination surfaces because they consist of combined natural turf and non-turf materials.

Artificial material which is used to reinforce a natural turfgrass pitch. It is especially used to aid surface stability on high sand root zone constructions and to maintain surface evenness. There are three main types, or categories, of reinforced material: 1. Synthetic grass blades which are stitched into a surface. Examples being SIS grass; Grassmaster / Desso; Sporthybrid R. 2. Artificial inclusion, such as synthetic fibres mixed into a root zone material. Examples, being Fibresand; Fibrelastic; Loksand; Sporthybrid Turf. 3. An Artificial light-weight grass carpet (or material layer/

A mechanical renovation and refurbishment process undertaken by Replay Maintenance. A specialist machine removes contaminated and often compacted infill material from a sand-filled synthetic pitch using compressed air and allows for new material to be returned to the carpet.

Chopped up and ground rubber material, often recycled from vehicle tyres, which is granulated to different sizes. Also called Crumb Rubber, Rubber Granules.
