Performance Quality Analysis
The comparison and review of information, which has been gathered by Performance Quality Assessment and Performance Quality Measurement, against desired parameters within the PQS framework.
Performance Quality Assessment
As part of the PQS framework, this is a visual assessment of a surface to help provide an indication of compliance with PQS criteria.
Performance Quality Measurement
As part of the PQS framework, this is a physical assessment of a surface using equipment to gather measured data to help provide evidence of compliance with PQS criteria.
Performance Quality Standard
A framework used in turf management to provide an insight into the quality of a surface produced from maintenance activities and management practices. This latter aspect could include how well pitch usage has been actively managed to help reduce excessive wear on a pitch when ground conditions are unsuitable for play. It provides an indicative representation of a product, such as a sports pitch, using a range of clearly defined and measurable criteria.
Pests
A structural quality performance standard which states the maximum amount of pest damage present, as a percentage, noticeable on the sward surface. The most visual damage from grubs might be the direct effect of them feeding on plant parts producing a stressed yellow and sickly-looking sward, or from indirect effects of damage from birds pecking or badgers or foxes digging for the grubs. The standard might also state the maximum number of insect grubs counted, rather than area covered. This is achieved by expelling grubs by firstly soaking the area and then covering it with a plastic sheet to

Pitch Line Markings
A presentational quality performance standard which states that line markings are visible from a stated minimum distance, for example, from 30m.
Playing Experience
The influence of a playing surface on a player's ability and satisfaction on their performance during or after a match or training session. Factors which can impact on playing experience can be categorised as the playing quality performance standards. The condition of the playing surface, such as ground cover, grass length, root depth and drainage capability, all have an influence on how well a pitch and player performs: These form the other categories of performance standard - structural and presentational.
Playing Quality
A category of measurement in the Performance Quality Standards framework. This category includes features which express the playing experience and include, depending on the sport:
Poa annua
A structural quality performance standard which states the maximum amount of annual meadow grass, as a percentage, in the surface being maintained. This is an undesirable grass species in most, but arguably all, turfgrass situations and should be kept to a minimum.
Presentational Quality
A category of measurement in the original Performance Quality Standards framework. This category includes the visual appearances of a surface.
