4.2.2 Fuel for machinery
1 This will mostly be diesel, petrol and stored electricity in batteries. Engines, or motors require energy to work and this is provided by a fuel source.
Most machinery that is used on a football pitch can typically be classed as heavy duty because it is driven by a tractor or other relatively large power unit.
2 Where equipment is non-mechanical, then it will typically be powered by human muscle power. However, even these pedestrian operated items of equipment will require some form of fuel. This might be, for example, petrol for a hand operated mower or batteries to power a motor used in line marking spraying equipment.
Most fuel is relatively expensive, so it is important to plan the use of machinery in an appropriate way. Do not carry out tasks just for the sake of it.
