Module 1:

What is a football pitch?

If we are able to identify and then describe the details of a football pitch surface, we will be able to better understand how this might impact on creating a work plan that is used to help achieve the desired expectations.

Even though you are at the start of the course, we are already starting to make a connection with the final module of the course where you will create a work plan for your own pitch.

So, before moving on to the next section, we want you to attempt the following two questions.

1.1.5

Briefly describe two benefits that are gained, where technical pitch details have been considered, when creating a work plan for a football pitch.

Your ideas might have looked something like the following:

  • If something is described in detail, then it makes it a lot easier for a plan to be created to help achieve the desired outcomes from the description.
  • Resources (which includes staff, equipment, materials and costs) being used more efficiently and effectively.
1.1.6

Now try and think of two disadvantages where you haven't bothered to consider any relevant pitch details when creating a work plan.

Your ideas might have looked something like the following:

  • If the description is vague and subjective then any plan will also be vague and subjective, with a high degree of uncertainty over what is actually needed to be achieved as an outcome.
  • Resources (which includes staff, equipment, materials and costs) not being used as sensibly and wisely as they should be.

You may have put something similar, or another relevant statement, for either option.

A really good place to start in being able to describe the details of a football pitch is basically to walk     over a football pitch and pay attention to, and make notes of, what you see.

This is what we will look at in the next section.
