Crossfire

A product name for an insecticide that contained the active ingredient chlorpyrifos for the control of frit fly and leatherjackets but is no longer approved for use.
Dazomet

An active ingredient of a former soil fumigant of fungi weed seeds, insect grubs, earthworms, nematodes and previously used as granular prills to sterilise soil prior to use in turf situations, in seed or turf beds or in piles of soil for construction or top-dressing purposes. A product name for this was Basamid.
DDT

An insecticide (with the chemical name of Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) which was used for the control of leatherjackets, chafer grubs and fever fly larvae, and which is no longer approved for use (from 1986 onwards) in the UK.
Defoamer

A product name for a concentrated silicone anti-foam emulsion, in a 1-litre handheld spray container, which disperses existing foam once sprayed onto its surface. About 15-30ml sprayed into a 400-litre tank can help prevent the formation of foam. It is supplied by Vitax Amenity.
Derris

A former persistent pesticide, with the active ingredient of rotenone, which was applied as a dust to control earthworms. It primarily acted as an expellant with the earthworms needing to be swept up from the turf surface.
Diatomaceous Earth

A natural insecticide which dehydrates insects, and which is made from fossilized algae, produced as powder or granules, with the latter being more for use as a soil amendment product for drainage and soil porosity improvement, for example, Xpedite.
DiPel DF

A product name for a water dispersible granule biological insecticide containing Bacillus thuringiensis ssp kurstaki strain ABTS-351, used for the control of caterpillar (Lepidoptera) larvae. The application rate on amenity vegetation is 0.75kg of product per hectare. “For optimum results it is best to apply the product avoiding conditions of high light intensity or temperatures outside the general range of 10 - 20°C.†It is supplied by Interfarm (UK) Ltd, being manufactured by the Valent Biosciences Corporation (Illinois).
Dursban 4

A product name for an insecticide that contained the active ingredient chlorpyrifos for the control of insect grubs, including frit fly, fever fly, chafers and leatherjackets but is no longer approved for use.
Easy Clean

A product name for a surface biocide, with the active ingredient being benzalkonium chloride (7.5% concentrate) for the removal of algae, lichen and mould from hard and artificial surfaces. A 5-litre container will treat about 75m², with it being supplied by Vitax Amenity.
EGC

A make of nematicide (EGC Liquid or EGC Granular) for use on managed amenity turf which contains garlic extract, with up to 6 applications per year. It can also have a suppressive effect on leatherjackets when applied during the autumn and may see a reduction in Fusarium Patch and Pythium diseases. It is manufactured by Ecospray.
