Groundsmans Paint

Finer grass clippings which are used to sprinkle over bare or damaged areas of turf to aid recovery and to cover up any minor damage which may have occurred from a maintenance activity or vandalism. Only a small covering is sprinkled otherwise it will look unsightly. When the grassed surface is next cut and there are still bare or thin areas then a further light sprinkling of grass clippings is carried out. The finer the grass surface then the finer the clippings that would be needed to be used as groundsmans paint.
Grow Lamp

An artificial electric powered light source used to encourage grass growth under low light conditions, such as stadia environment. Also known as Grow Light.
Heeling-In

Not to be confused with Heeling or Treading. Heeling-in is the action of temporarily planting bare rooted trees or shrubs when they cannot be readily planted in a permanent position. The roots are either put into a shallow pit or dip, covered with soil, and then firmed with ones heel. This helps to prevent a plant from drying out, especially in exposed conditions.
Height of Cut

The height at which a turf surface is expected to be cut by a mower. There are two variants on height of cut: bench setting and effective cutting height: These need to be understood to ensure the grass is actually cut at the required height. The term is also referred to as Cutting Height.
Hexagon Turf Renovator

A hand tool for the removal and replacement of damaged turf. It cuts a hexagonal piece of turf (with a width of 180mm) to a maximum depth of 100mm.
