Trimming
The tidying of the edge of a turf surface, typically using long-handled edging shears, or similar, by making the edge neater in appearance, without any overhanging grass.
Trowel
A small hand tool, a garden trowel, which can be used to take soil samples. Whilst it is not as tidy a method as specialised soil sampling tools, it is cheap and suitable for use on less pristine turf areas.
TruEdge
A device which is attached to the side of a cylinder mower to help maintain the correct perimeter sharpness of a green or tee, without scalping into the adjacent surrounds. The device has an electronic transmitter which interacts with a wire buried at a depth of 300mm to 350mm around the perimeter of a green or tee. It is manufactured by Cub Cadet.
Trulute
A product name for a handheld item of equipment which is a rigid rectangular frame with four angled bars used for levelling top-dressing on grass or hard porous surfaces or for cutting / removing high spots. It is manufactured by Sisis.
Turf Cooling System
Turf cooling fans, which spray a mist of water over the turf surface, helping to cool the sward surface during hot weather conditions by an average of 8C, or so. Examples include the TC25, TC40 and TC50 from SGL.
Turf Trailer
A make of tractor pulled trailer, with 4 wide (Ultra Trac) tyres, consisting of 2 models, both requiring a minimum 27hp tractor:
• 525: with a capacity of 2,500kg;
• 550: with a capacity of 5,000kg. They are manufactured by Dakota.
Turfcutter
A make of tractor mounted turf cutter, with a cutting width of 0.6m. The turf can be cut up to a depth of 65mm; it is manufactured by Redexim-Charterhouse.
TurfPod
A portable soil sensor unit with 3 prongs which are inserted into the soil and which monitors six different characteristics, including Light, humidity, air temperature, soil salinity (EC), soil temperature and soil moisture. This is supplied by SGL.
UVC180
A battery operated and pedestrian operated machine which projects ultraviolet light onto a turf sward to aid the preventative treatment of fungal diseases when the likelihood of disease outbreak is high. It has an operating width of 1.8m and can cover 11,000m2 on a full charge. It is supplied by SGL.
Zorbex
A pedestrian operated surface drying equipment. It was had a drum 61cm wide and 46cm in diameter, to which was attached an absorbent sponge which had moisture squeezed out towards the front and rear of the equipment by adjustable rollers and collected into two frame mounted 25-litre rectangular containers. It weighed 76kg and was manufactured by SISIS about 1970.
