Besom Broom
A long handled broom, used in a sweeping action, which is ideal for sweeping up leaves and debris on a turf surface, but especially on hard surfaces. A traditional besom broom is made of Silver Birch twigs (although other plants could be used) tied around a wooden handle made from Hazel. It is often just referred to as Besom.
Brush [2]
A make of tractor mounted, via three-point linkage, dragbrush unit. There are 2 models:
• BR200: working width of 2m; weight of 190kg; with a power need of >20hp
• BR400: working width of 4m; weight of 400kg; with a power need of >35hp

Brush Pro
A make of ride-on brushing system consisting of a pair of mid mounted oscillating brush units and three rear mounted brushes. The working width of the oscillating brushes is 1.5-metres, whilst that of the rear brushes is 3-metres; it is manufactured by SISIS.
Dew Brush
A long handled, light weight implement with typically a 2 to 3-metre wide metal bar at the end, to which are attached many short nylon bristles, being about 25mm in length. This is a quick and easy way to remove dew from well maintained, uniform surfaces.
Dew Removal
Removing surface moisture is an important maintenance activity, especially in the early morning on golf or bowling greens. The primary turfculture aim is to reduce the conditions for disease attack and spread. Several methods can be used, including use of:
• A Switch.
• A Drag-brush.
• A Dew brush.
• A Leaf or debris blower.
• An irrigation system. Turning on pop-ups just for a very short period for a quick sprinkle of the green can help dislodge dew from the grass leaves.
• A prior application of a wetting agent to reduce dew retention on leaves.
Dragframe
A make of tractor mounted lute with a working width of 4m to work-in a even out top-dressing material. It is constructed in three sections to enable folding of the outer two sections. The frame has 4 spiral bars within the construction, weighs 200kg and requires a tractor with a minimum of 30hp. It is manufactured by GKB Machines.
Dyna-Brush
A contra-rotating brush unit (brushes at 120° mounted on a central shaft; divided into two halves) unit, which replaces the cylinder mower units on a triple mower. It is manufactured by GreenTek.
Extreme Clean
A tractor operated powered unit, of two models, with rotating scrubbing brushes 5 rotor brushes on the 1200 model (with a working width of 1200mm and requiring a minimum 18 hp tractor) and 7 on the 1800 model (with a working width of 1800mm and requiring a minimum 25 hp tractor). It is used mainly for sand and similar fill material on synthetic surfaces which have become compacted, neglected and with the artificial grass blades being flattened and requiring repositioning to an upright position. It is manufactured by Redexim-Charterhouse.
Fairway Falcon
A tractor trailed 3-unit rotary brushing system, with each unit powered by its own electric motor, thereby not requiring use of a PTO.
Flexi 400
A make of tractor towed interchangeable floating-head roller or brush unit with 7 sections, for use on large grassed areas such as sports fields and golf fairways to remove dew or for presentation purposes. It requires a power unit of a minimum of 15 h.p. and has a working width of 4-metres, and it is manufactured by SISIS.
