This 7-stage coaching model: Assess, Creative brainstorming, Hone goals, Initiate options, Evaluate options, Valid action plan, Encourage momentum, is useful for employees who value a structured environment but may be in need of being given a new purpose for their role.

1. Assess the current situation and explore why the coachee is where they are.
2. Explore many possible options to potentially change the status quo to achieve their outcome. A brainstorming session can help throw up many things to consider for what is actually wanted as an outcome.
3. The coachee will now have a better understanding of their ultimate aim and objectives. This stage will now hone them into a tangible outcome, typically using SMART statements.
4. With a clear outcome identified, now the coachee will think about and create (i.e. initiate) a range of options which might achieve the outcome.
5. Evaluate the range of options, ideally settling for the best in achieving the outcome.
6. Design an action plan to show how the outcome will be achieved with the chosen option. This is usually split into well defined, manageable activities.
7. Keep the coachee motivated, providing constructive guidance and encouragement.
