Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
This was formed in 1997 from the merger of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications and the Schools Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, which was mainly referred to as the QCA, regulated public qualifications (excluding higher education qualifications awarded by Universities) in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and this was the first time this centralised approach had been taken.
QCA was dissolved in 2010 when its role was taken over by Ofqual.
