Football Pitch Watering
Watering is often an issue for many pitches as they will only have natural rainfall to rely on to help seed germination and establishment during renovation in May.
Where pitches have been upgraded with a sand-gravel slit drainage system, or similar, then the installation of some form of artificial irrigation system should have been part of the upgrade process. If this hasn’t been the case, then establishing grass over the slits and then maintaining it to a suitable standard will be a problem.
Poor grass establishment over sand slits will create a hazard and unsafe play would occur; considering the short time period between any end of season renovation and the start of a new playing season over the drier summer months then not having some form of suitable irrigation is an unacceptable situation where enhanced drainage has been installed.
