Football is played on a rectangular surface, with adult pitches typically being 100m in length and 60m to 70m in width (the FA’s suggestion is for a pitch to be 64m in width); there is also to be a 3m safety run-off width on each side.

The area of a football pitch playing surface might typically range from 6000m² – 7000m², with run-offs increasing the total surface to 7,000m² - 8,050m².
