For the majority of football pitches this would be a 100% blend of Perennial ryegrass.

Other species could be included, especially if the pitch has relatively low use during the playing season and also doubles up as a cricket outfield during the summer.

For this latter situation the grass seed mixture could actually be quite variable, with an example containing 40-60% Perennial ryegrass, with the balance being made up from two or more species of Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass, Strong Creeping Red Fescue, Slender Creeping Red Fescue, and Browntop Bent.
