The UK Government has been aiming to improve the quality and extent of workplace skills for many years. The NVQ and then Apprenticeship programmes have been the main focus for vocational skills development, however, after 20+ years of funding and promotion there are still significant skills shortages and gaps within the UK workforce, so if a measure of success is judged on how well the skills shortage has been overcome then the long-term approach with the many changes, some may argue meddling, made by Government have not been very successful and may also be seen as a failure.
