Harasim's Online Collaborative Learning Theory

The emphasis for this theory is on engaging in online networks of shared learning through conversations and discussions with peers.

Three progressive stages are defined, as
• ‘Idea generating’;
• ‘Idea organising’, and
• ‘Intellectual convergence’.

This theory is now more commonly referred to as collaborativism. This theory would sit within self-determined learning rather than self-directed learning.
