A common Perennial grass, with the scientific name of Schedonorus arundinaceus (previously Festuca arundinacea). The leaf is Flat or rolled (when dry), having a typical width of 3-12mm. The Ligule is Membranous, being 2mm in length; Auricle: Yes, typically with sparse fine hairs, but some ecotypes without. Growth type is Tufted. It is a broader flat leaved fescue grass, with quite firm leaves, which is sometimes used within a mixture with perennial ryegrass. It is a relatively drought tolerant species, so is a useful complement to freer draining winter games pitches, or general lawns.
