Sector Skills Council
A government licensed, employer led, organisation which was originally established in 2002 to represent an occupational sector in the economy and to advance the skills needs and productivity of their sector.
In 2025 there was 18 Sector Skills Councils (SSCs).
A significant role of an SSC is the collection and analysis of employment and skills data from employers within their sector, which is called Labour Market Intelligence (LMI), and also to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS).
