Scheme of Work
This provides a medium to long term plan for a course of study.
It breaks down a qualification or course into its main components, such as units or modules, and then into different, smaller, elements or topics.
A well-planned approach helps a teacher or tutor to cover all the required criteria which form a qualification or unit.
For long or complex courses, a scheme of work will be very desirable because it allows teachers / tutors to ensure all course components have been covered.
It would be quite embarrassing, at the least, if part of a course was missed and was only discovered at the end of the learning programme when pupils had left.
A typical scheme of work might include the following:
• Course title
• Level (e.g. GCSE; Level 2)
• Course Code
• Guided Learning Hours
• Credit value
• Start date
• End date
• Lesson hours per week
• Learning outcomes
• Assessment criteria
• Week number / date
• Expectations
• Objectives
• Content / topics
• Resources required
