Summative Assessment

This is typically carried out at the end of a course, or period of study, and is used to determine if a learner has passed or failed a course or satisfied the requirements of the study.

It is an evaluative technique, which presents the findings of a learner's ability.

Other purposes of this type of assessment include:
• Providing a grade for a student.
• Allowing a student to progress onto further study.
• Provides an indication of a person's suitability for work.
• Estimating the potential success of a person in future study and work.
