Turfie

An informal, generic term, often used in social media posts to identify or refer to an individual whose main employment involves looking after turfgrass areas, especially sports turf, or for someone who maintains sports turf as a volunteer, such as at a grassroots football club, or someone who is passionate about lawns and turfcare. It could be argued that whilst the term is used to try and encourage a sense of belonging to a group of likeminded individuals it can also be seen as a term which inadvertently trivialises and understates the profession of grounds care by using a relatively juvenile term for the actual work involved in producing safe and good quality grass surfaces.
