A chafer beetle that typically appears from June to August. It has a life-cycle of two-years. It is around 10mm in length and brown in colour. It mostly lives in woodland, hedges and grasslands. The grubs do develop in grassland and may be a localised problem in turf surfaces. Its scientific name is Hoplia philanthus.
