Switching
The action of using a long cane, which is attached to a handle and which is held by both hands, moving from side to side in a forward sweeping fashion. It is carried out to remove clumps of grass, dew, or earthworm casts on fine turf areas; or prior to mowing a fine turf surface, such as a golf green or bowling green, to help identify and flick off any fine hard materials, such as fine gravel, or golfers' studs which have become dislodged on a green. This activity is occasionally called Swishing or Poling.
