A chafer beetle that typically appears from June to August, hence being called the summer chafer and also June bug. It has a life-cycle of two-years. It is a similar size to the garden chafer, the beetle being around 10-15mm in length and reddish brown in colour. It mostly lives in meadow, garden borders, and hedgerows and may be a localised problem of turf. It is typically active at dusk. Its scientific name is Amphimallon solstitiale.
