Depressions and dips in a turf surface.

A hollow may have gradual or steep gradient and may be large or small in size.

Depending upon the extent and nature of a hollow, it can be made even by several means:
• Regular topdressings to a grass surface, without smothering the turf each time;
• Hand forking and working topdressing into the fork holes, but also combined with surface topdressing;
• Cutting the turf into sections, peeling it back, adding topsoil and relevelling and then replacing the turf;
• or in extreme cases removing the turf, cultivating the underlying soil, importing a lot more new topsoil, and then returning the turf or laying new turf.
