A common Perennial grass, with the scientific name of Agrostis castellana. The leaf is Flat or rolled, having a typical width of 1.5 to 4.5mm. The Ligule is Membranous, being 3mm in length; Auricle?: No. Growth type is Rhizomatous. It is a single cultivar species of bent grass. It was commonly sown on golf and bowling greens, and is still suitable for such use, although finer leaved and more compact brown top bent grass cultivars are more commonly sown on these areas. Highland bent may now be more frequently used on ornamental lawns, golf tees and golf fairways. It is also called Highland Browntop Bent.
