Ground Cover

The percentage of a surface which is covered by a stated condition.

This is typically vegetation, which would be divided inti live vegetation and dead or decaying vegetation.

Bare ground is also often included as part of the overall ground cover for a defined area.

The total ground cover is typically determined by an assessment of a turfgrass surface using a quadrat.

Live vegetation can typically be categorised into desirable grasses; undesirable grasses; weeds; moss and algae.
