A volunteer at a bowling club who helps to maintain the green.

They typically carry out more routine activities such as brushing, mowing, watering, setting out bowls equipment and positioning rinks each day.

A contracted qualified greenkeeper, or grounds maintenance contractor, would carry out the less routine maintenance activities, such as pesticide applications, end of season renovation and a light spring renovation work.

Aeration and scarification may or may not be carried out by Greenrangers depending upon the type of equipment available to them.

This is a traditional term which has been used in South Africa, and possibly elsewhere, from at least the early to mid-part of the 20th Century. Also spelt as Green ranger.
