There are two subspecies called this name, both are uncommon Perennial grasses. Their scientific names are: Festuca rubra subspecies megastachys; and Festuca rubra ssp multiflora. They are very similar in that they do not have an Auricle; Their growth type is Rhizomatous, and both have Bristle like leaves and Membranous Ligules. The leaf width of subspecies megastachys is typically 0.5-1.2mm, with the ligule being 0.5mm in length; whilst the leaf width of subspecies multiflora is typically 0.6-1.5mm, with the ligule being 0.3mm in length.
