The penetration of a sward to a deeper depth than for routine aeration. Deep spiking will typically be carried out to a depth of 200mm-250mm and greater. Heavy duty solid tines as well as heavy duty slitting type tines are typically used, with a combined action of decompaction through some form of soil shattering/fissuring also being frequently carried out. Also called Deep Aeration.
