An organic source of phosphate which also supplies a small amount of nitrogen. It was traditionally used as a fertiliser for seed beds and prior to turfing. It typically contains 10% phosphorus (22% phosphate) and a small amount of nitrogen at 4% but being organic in origin this will vary with a typical range being 3.5-5% N, and 20 ¯ 25% P2O5). Regular applications of bone meal can encourage weeds, especially clover, and encourage earthworm activity.
