An individual who is able to supervise a greenkeeping team, without the presence of the Head Greenkeeper or Golf Course Manager.

They will also help in the planning and maintenance of a golf course. This term covers a range of job titles including Senior Greenkeeper; First Assistant Golf Greenkeeper; Deputy Head Greenkeeper; and Deputy Golf Course Manager.

There is a Level 3 apprenticeship standard for this role, which was originally available from February 2020, although the standard was retired in 2023, being replaced by the Advanced Sports Turf Technician.
